On a call attention notice, Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan in an emotional speech showed haplessness over the fall in water supplies to the city, asking the government "shall we commit suicide? Where should we go"? He said there is no remedy for public to find as the water board authorities are too influential that none can challenge their powers.
He said the water crisis have forced the public to surround the legislators houses demanding for the potable utility, as sufferings of the citizens are not in sight to end. He said that despite holding several rounds of meeting with the KWSB officials, he found nothing for public of his constituency. He questioned the government that how these piled-up issues will be solved, as the officials are not interested to heed upon the public complaints.
In reply, Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah admitted that the city is facing with the water crisis that resulted in the public sufferings. He however told the house that the water reservoirs are low to meet the city requirements. He said the city will continue to face the water problems until K-IV and desalination projects are completed. He said the government is going to constitute a new board of KWSB with all stakeholders to find a solution to the long-running issues.
To another call attention notice by PTI's Adeel Shahzad on dilapidated water pipelines in Korangi that according to him causing diseases like hepatitis, the minister said the area is facing such a problem though the government has replaced main water supply line and work on others are underway. "There are issues in Korangi," Nasir said. PTI's Rabistan Khan pointed out that the sewage has spilled over into the houses in Surjani Town, on which, the local bodies' minister said the concerned department is working to solve the issue.
The house also adopted a resolution, which the PTI's Abdul Ghafar had presented in the assembly, seeking punishment for a school administration if found of negligence in a student's drowning in the swimming pool. PTI's Dr Seema Zia said the school administration is hiding the facts, as it informed the parents late. She said the assembly sympathises with bereaved family. Latter the house was adjourned till Thursday at 3pm.
